Under the solid captaincy of Tessa Furnivall and flair coaching of Mark ‘Kinderella’ Kinder, The Monkeys rounded off an exciting season with triumph. Not only did we gain the all-important victory over Cambridge at the varsity match, dominating the game to a 2-0 win, but also achieved promotion in our Saturday league to premier division 1. This was a well-deserved promotion having won 18 of our 22 games and finishing 6 points ahead of all other teams at the top of league. Whilst the BUCS Wednesday league was not as successful, we managed to pull ourselves back from a bad start to the season, putting out some solid performances in the final matches and maintaining our position in the league.
I am extremely excited to be taking over as captain of The Monkeys for the 2009-10 season, eager to take on the challenges of a higher Saturday division and to push the team forwards in the Wednesday league. Whilst many of our key players are leaving Oxford, a large proportion of the squad remains and I am confident that the team will continue with the same determined yet bubbly atmosphere, producing yet another successful season for The Monkeys.
