Under the leadership of Mim Walters and the guidance of Alex Evans and Chris Newman, the Monkeys have had another successful season. There were several new additions to the team, including our very own Dutch double act, three freshers and a footballer, all of who helped to build on a team that moved from strength to strength during the season. After the Christmas break and for much of the season, we were sitting at the top of our Wednesday BUCS league and were unlucky to miss out on promotion in a closely contested game against Birmingham. Our disappointment was soon forgotten, however, after a spectacular 5-1 victory in the Varsity match against Cambridge. This was topped off by a semi-final finish in the BUCS Cup, after being knocked out in a close game against a strong Nottingham side. In our Saturday league we were slightly less successful, finishing in 8th place, but wins against the top three finishing teams shows that we can build on this in seasons to come.

Next year, a BUCS promotion will be the major aim for the Monkeys, but we will also be looking to firmly cement ourselves amongst the top 5 teams in the Saturday league.

The Monkeys are an extremely motivated, committed and close-knit hockey team and an integral part of OUHC. I have no doubt that our ability and unique spirit will come to the fore in the 2011-12 season.
