The 2009/10 season promises to be an exciting one for Oxford Women’s Blues. Our aim to be strong competitors in the BUCS Premier League is a realistic one, as we will face head on such challenging opposition as Bath, Bristol and Exeter. We also hope to perform well in our weekend matches, and to improve our standing in the South Premier League, division 2, where we are currently middle of the table. This year, an early start to training and a professional approach to our hockey will be key elements to our success; it will be important to achieve and maintain that fine balance of fun and hard work. We will start preseason in -2 week (week commencing 20th Sept) and would encourage any keen newcomers to get in touch early and come along. Whilst starting university and joining a new team simultaneously can be daunting, I want to reassure you that playing hockey at Oxford is both really rewarding, and great fun - we enjoy the social aspects of being part of a team and forming lasting friendships just as much as the playing! Fitness will be really important in order to perform as well as we can, and along with our training session and two matches a week, we will be running extra fitness sessions to ensure we are on the best form we can be. With our enthusiastic and very knowledgeable coach, John Shaw, I hope we have a good recipe for success!
