Berlin 2010

In July 2010, OUHC took a dream team of twenty-two lads and lasses to Berlin. Although we would rather have gone to Malta, it proved to be a suitable location for topless dancing, pub-crawls, nudist beaches and splashes of hockey. Sights, museums and crazy bicycles were all sampled and I hear that the open top bus tour was fully appreciated by the old man of park end and "turtlelover".

A mixture of injuries, illness and other commitments reduced our playing number to a mere eighteen. The rotation and constant support of the subs bench meant that, despite meeting tough opposition in "the tank", OUHC were able to secure victory in both games. Hangovers considered, the hockey was fast, flowing and full of OUHC flare. MOMs Becci and Jos led by example and Rachel demonstrated how to grow a spectacular bruise. Fffffffrench-constant is available for p-flick coaching. Our strict policy on error-based "self-sub" led to exceedingly short appearances from some (Jess Barnes). The hospitality of both teams was super and they quickly realised that the way to a student team's heart was beer and a free BBQ.

Tour saw the birth of "Sweaty 2010" following a mixture of warm weather and aggressive dancing. And it is safe to say that fives got out of hand. It is tough to pick the worst. Ben White - get on a random train? Becci and He-J - swim across the river? Truck - spit in my face? Many other inappropriate starfishes in the "beach club"? We caused a stir. This all culminated in an excellent fines night to conclude tour. Even the most enthusiastic member of tour, Thomas Whiteley was seen to raise a smile. If there was one disappointment in tour it was lack of OUHC inter-loving (excluding those already locked up). The female dominance prompted the usual Carina based antics, as the photos will testify.

The group was spectacularly led by Freya "I won't ever take off my tour shirt" Reeve and the tardy, less knowledgable She-J. With the help of our baseball caps, they successfully steered everybody home (4 hours late). A successful tour I'd say.
